Popcorn!

Soon we can see and feel land again and that is something that many of us are looking forward to. We have been out sailing for twelve days now and even if sailing is nice the feeling of still ground under your feet would not be that bad.

On midships night watch today between 00.00 and 04.00 our watch leader told us that everyone had to climb up to the second platform which is located 20 meters up in the mast. We were wondering why we had to be so many people on the platform since there is not a lot of space there. What kind of work in the mast would need twelve people? We sat on the second platform and were waiting for our watch leader to tell us what to do. After a couple of minutes he climbed up in the mast himself, and he was carrying something. He had brought two big bags filled to the brim with popcorn. So there we sat with a wonderful view, ate popcorn and watched the moon and the stars.

Another thing that happened during our night watch was that a catamaran past us. The boat was only 30 meters away from Gunilla and they were taking pictures of our ship. We talked to the people on the catamaran and they told us that they also were sailing to Horta. Maybe we will see them there when we arrive.

After a good six-hour sleep, it was time for breakfast and then watch again. On the watch between 12.00 and 16.00 Emilia and I helped the cooks with the dishes and the fika. For fika we made fruit salad with oranges, green apples, pineapple and coconut. It was really appreciated and delicious. The fika and the food over all is very important here on Gunilla. One of the most common questions is what it is for fika, for lunch or for dinner. Since it can be hard work during the watches you sometimes get really hungry.
