A bit of sun and heat

After leaving Dublin, the weather has really been on our side, at least in terms of warmth. After wearing almost my entire wardrobe for nearly every watch on this trip, a bit of sun and heat has been more than welcome.

Working on deck is significantly easier in a t-shirt and shorts than in two layers of sweaters and a rain suit. However, the wind hasn’t been as favorable, and I would guess that after we turned off the engine, our average speed has been under a knot. This, however, hasn’t stopped the crew from putting us to work, and the day watch was spent lubricating cables and doing quite a bit of dishwashing after the dishwasher decided to quit. The nice weather seemed to have put the crew in a good mood, which led to us getting half an hour to lie on deck and soak up the sun. After the watch, I did some schoolwork, had dinner, and got a few hours of sleep until it was time for watch again. Since we don’t carry out maintenance work at night and there was little wind, we mostly just waited for time to pass so we could get back into our bunks.
