We are currently in Cherbourg, which I would describe as a cosy city with a lot of activity. The day started early with portside on duty overnight. I got up at 5:30 AM and stood watch until 7:30 AM. It was a cold morning, with occasional rain showers, but it got nicer later in the day.
Today, both portside and starboard had their free time and could go ashore. The midships stayed on the boat and practiced furling sails, which we in portside had done the day before during our watch.
We wandered around the city and stopped at one of the many crêperies in Cherbourg, where we had delicious crêpes. We also walked around the market, which was in a square downtown and along the streets. There were mostly fruits, but also some stalls with clothes and other items. We visited a few shops, and then a group decided to hike up to a fort located on a hilltop a bit away. However, the rest of us from the portside watch decided to do it later in the week when we had free time. I've also noticed how challenging some French people find English, which sometimes makes it difficult to have longer conversations or ask questions.
