Today was a day full of new impressions, we left the chaos of the city and took the bus to a small village a bit outside of Dakar. When we arrived, our guide showed us the way to the school we were going to visit and we walked along with animals such as goats, donkeys and geese who were roaming the streets. We soon arrived at the school were all students and teachers where already waiting for us and recieved a warm welcome speech.
We started by checking out their classrooms and after that it was time for some activities. First we got to plant our own trees nearby the school and then we played different games together with the students such as volleyball and handball. Before it was time for lunch we took a dance break and got to dance to their favourite music genre “mbalax” aswell as they got a taste of some swedish music.
For lunch we got to try some senegalese traditional food and we sat in groups together with the children of the village, they ate with their hands and as a sign of respect, so did we. When the plates were empty and our stomachs were full we continiuded our tour to see the villages sewing industry. Apart from clothes they made stuffed animals, bags, and different lotions, which of course resulted in some shopping.
After spending multiple hours in the village it was time for one last activity, a friendly football game. Senegal versus Sweden with the red sand as fotballcourse, it was epic to say the least. After a great game in the burning sun with results that we don’t have to mention, it was time for a goodbye and thank you.
