A lot of lasts

Today was my last free day on Saint Martin, my last free day in the carribean and my last free day in harbour on this ship. It was a day of a lot of lasts, with other words.

So, what might a young and immature student like me do on such a paramount day you might ask. The answer is of course to make the most of the warm sun and lay on the beach all day. With a nice, red sunburn as a compliment of course.

Naturally, me and my friends were not the only ones with this idea, so at the end of the day a lot of lobsters walked around on the ship, fitting the maritime theme and all. One might have thought a costume party was due, something the professional crew made us gravely aware of when they one again, to deaf ears, warned us on the dangers of sunburn.

Anywho, enough about sunburn, we have heard a fair share about that topic already. The important thing here, after all, is the magnitude this day in particular carries in importance. You see, this is our last trip our class has before we have to decide what to do with our lives, something a lot of people on board would rather not think about, so a lot of us try to forget the outside world for a while and focus on the now. The now where we are in the Carribean, with our friends, during school hours. The now where we get to learn about other cultures, and of course, every now and then, discover exotic beaches.

The beach we decided to visit today was not too bad if I get to say so myself. It had nice big waves, the (by now standard) turquoise water and white sand, all accompaied by a nice assortment of water activities. Something me and my friends decided to try, carpe diem and all that. After some thinking decided to try the big floating ring that you hold on to as a boat drags you around, making you bounce around on the waves in high speed. Super fun, and perfect for the weather, as it was 35 degrees outside. A fun way to cool yourself down is always appreciated.

As previously mentioned, the day did bring with itself a few sunburns, but in my opinion it was worth it, and i’d say that it was a good spent day of a lot of lasts, or whatever you might want to call it. I decided to spend it like any other day, to forget the scary significance and, as mentioned, live in the now. The very nice now, if I get to say so myself
