An early start

The day started earlier than usual at 05:00 with porridge breakfast. At 06:00 we were ready on half-deck to go on a school visit.

We met Anne-Lis’ friend Norman at the gate and he was going to take us to the school. We took a bus for a few minutes and then we arrived at a huge blue building. At 07:00 the students' school day began and they gathered in a square on the school yard. They stood around a flagpole and sang the national anthem of Suriname's while raising the Surinamese flag. It felt a bit different.

We learned a lot at the school visit and at 11.30 it was time to leave the school. Some of us went back to the boat to work while the others got ready to explore the city, Paramaribo. Central markt, which was the biggest market in Paramaribo offered second hand and endless of exotic fruits, vegetables and spices. We bought about ten mangos home to our hard-working friends. Then we went to Mc Donald’s to eat, it was good to eat something that you're fairly used to!

On the way home to the boat we stopped at a grocery store to buy some sweets to take with us home. Once on the boat, we cut up our fresh mangos which tasted incredibly good. With full stomachs we went to bed to be rested until the next day in Suriname.
