Are we there yet?

We have been at sea for a week now and it is starting to show on the mood. This morning started out alright even though everyone seemed a little more tired than usual.

There were no sails up and the weather was good enough for the workforce to do maintenance. After a couple of hours of doing odd jobs around the boat it was time to scrub away rust. It is and endless uphill battle fought in too warm overalls and annoying glasses. You could see the motivation to work slipping away from us as we went to find protective clothes and gloves. It took way to much time to find everything and it took even longer before anyone understood exactly how and what we were supposed to do. When we were ready to work the watch was almost over and we left way more work for the next watch to do than we should have. The energy levels in the watch were low to say the least. But that is just how it is some days. We talked about it after watch and agreed to let it go and focus on the next watch. And after rain comes sunshine and we had a pretty perfect night watch. The weather was nice. And the stars were beautiful as usual. Everyone had slept and came up on deck well rested and in much better spirits than earlier. We played games, sang and practised the names of the ropes. Cleaning under deck even went well. We passed the inspection pretty much immediately and were rewarded with pancakes for fika. The mood from the day watch was forgotten and instead we are looking forward to seeing our next port.
