The day started off with the horrible sound of my alarm clock at 05:40 in the morning. It was time to prepare breakfast for most of the crew while the rest of them ran off to climb Pico, the highest mountain in Portugal. After breakfast it was time for our casual formation, ringing of bells and hoisting of the flags.
I thought that this was going to be a boring day at Gunilla since most of the students were either working or climbing Pico, but I managed to join a group of 4 other people and we went out for the day. First, we went to Peter’s Café where we got some coffee and a delicious brownie to start of our day with. We also went in to the souvenir shop that was close buy where I bought a nice glass prism with a picture of a whale in it. Then we walked around for a while and looked at the signatures that other ships had done on the pier until it was time for lunch. We went to an overcomplicated pizzeria where we ordered pizzas that reminded me of the sandwiches that we are served at Gunilla during nightshifts.
After lunch, we went up to a smaller mountain and took some awesome pictures of Horta and the rest of Faial. Around 15:00 we went back to Gunilla in order to get some delicious apple pie that was served for 3-fika. To finish our exciting day, we headed to a nearby beach and swam for about 20 minutes until one of us got stung by a strange jellyfish (not a dangerous one). We then went back to Gunilla and I finished my day by watching Pirates of the Caribbean and writing this blog.
My day started with the worst sound ever heard by mankind, the sound of an alarm clock in the morning, and ended with a nice movie and a small bag of candy.
Thank you for reading and see you soon in Sweden.
