A windy day on the Atlantic

We started of our day at 8 am with a watch that lasted for four hours. I was a part of the working group along with four others. Usually we are seven in the working group but unfortunately today three people from my watch were sick. Luckily there wasn’t a lot to do during the watch as we were going by motor instead of sailing so all we did was wash some equipment and then we mostly played games and talked.

There was a lot of wind, but it was coming from right in front of us, perfect for sailing if we were to head the opposite way back to the Azores.

After the watch we had a great lunch consisting of rice and fried chicken with some sallad. I added a sauce which made it pretty spicy but it still tasted great. After lunch we always have a lesson for about an hour. Today we learnt about checklists, what they consist of and why they’re important on board ships. It was quite interesting but I was familiar with most of it already.

For dinner we had potato soup and bread. It wasn’t as good as lunch but it was definitely alright.

At 8 pm it was time for watch again. During the evening watch we always clean the bathrooms and study halls but since so many of us were sick today it took a bit longer than usual. After we finished cleaning we had a short break and ate watermelon and then we went back out on deck. For the remaining two hours of our watch we played games, talked and did some yoga. At 12 am our watch was over and it was time for bed.
