Today was in Anna's words “the big sightseeing day”. We had a 10 hour sightseeing tour around Bayeux and other monuments from the second world war. We started the day off at 5:40 when my roommate got woken up for her galley duty by Erik. I thought that was the end of it but i was so wrong, At 5;50 Alfred barged in to tell Isabelle that she really had to get up and that our cook would get pissed otherwise, Twenty minutes later we were woken up by Emma who knocked on out door to see if we were awake and when we said that “yes we are awake why?” she just happily replied “okay” and left and then we were woken up by Ebba 2 more times at the times we should we purred. Everyone ate a quick breakfast to then pack lunch and leave for the buss at 7:20. It was a 1,5 hour bus ride to the first stop at the bayeux tapestry. The bayeux tapestry is a 70 meter long tapestry made for william the conqueror. We had a bit of time before we had to be back on the bus so my group got crepés and Stina got a much too sweet coffee. The second stop was an American cemetery from after the second world war. There was also a museum where they talked about the second world war and how the beaches were used. We ate lunch in the sun with a view over the sea. After that we took the bus to the German second world war cemetery which was ever so slightly more depressing than the American one. The american one was lit up and had much white, while all the German crosses and gravestones were in darker stone and on many of the german ones it just stood “two german soldiers”. There was also a house with info about German soldiers and how they fought in the war. Next up was a monument in the form of a statue in the middle of a beach that we got to look at. The last stop was a church where the tapestry was found. It was a really pretty church and I got to light a candle for my grandma. Well back at the boat we had an hour freetime and then supper. We got fried rice, It was really good. After supper we went outside to stock up before our next turn. For the rest of the evening we played games, crocheted and just had fun.
