This Saturday was our first full day on Gunilla since parting from Punta Delgada, as we were woken up after a somewhat sleepless night, we gathered around the rudder to take over the watch at 8 am. Somewhat unprepared, as we were told the weather was rather clear and on the nicer side. It wasn’t.
As I climbed, or dragged my still sleepy body up to the highest yard to prepare for setting the two highest sails it started pouring cats and dogs like I’ve never seen before, and because it was supposed to be calm I was up there in just shirt but with my sailing overall, witch wasn’t to much help, acting rather as a wearable bathtub, gathering as much rain as possible. But I’m not one to complain as I had much fun, climbing at the top, as it is always just as breathtakingly beautiful each time. After changing my clothes, and setting them up to dry to the best of my abilities we set almost all the sails, sparing some for the next watch. It was really something special, spectacular seeing all the sails rise and drag us to Acoruna, majestic is the word to describe it. A demanding job, which made it all the more rewarding to eat Lunch afterwards and sunbathing on deck while blasting some tunes as the sky cleared in the few rays that shined thru the thick wall of clouds that has surrounded us since touching down on the Azores a week ago.
After that I was up again, climbing, this time with a camera taking som really, just as before, breathtaking pictures of fully set rig. Then it was time again to go on watch at 8 pm til midnight where we, because of the immense lack of wind were forced to hoist all the sails that we set a mere 8 hours ago, which took up the whole four hours, and as before made all of us decently tired and made me throw my self into the bunk, sleeping like a rock a few moments later.
