Today we left Jersey, and we were leaving during my watch. This meant that my watch and the seafarers would handle the departure. I found my place, this time on the Forecastle. which is the forward mooring station. We let go of all lines without problem and then proceeded to make our way out of the harbor. This included some very good maneuvering by our Helmsman and Chief Officer.
When we were clear of the harbor we tidied up on deck. We rigged the safety nets along the starboard and port sides of the ship. And finally we secured the port side anchor for the voyage.
Some students onboard decided to do a 24-hour watch challenge, which meant that they would work for 24 hours without sleep or rest. For the rest of us however the watch ended and I went to sleep.
The next time I woke up it was time for the night watch, it was midnight and this would be our last night watch on Gunilla. We came up on deck and found a cheerful crowd, two students played guitar and the rest of us, all laying in a big pile, sang along. It's safe to say that these hours flew past for all of us, except for the few that were still doing the 24-Hour challenge.
