Today was the last day in La Coruna before we set sail again towards Jersey, and we in the starboard had the day off along with the portside watch. Originally the plan had been to leave Spain this morning, but our stay had been extended and so we had more time to go ashore. The first thing I chose to do with this extra spare time was to go back to bed.
I was completely exhausted after everything we had done over the past few days, and that’s not for nothing. I’ve been averaging around 25 000-30 000 steps every singe day we’ve been allowed ashore, walking around exporing from dawn to dusk. On top of that I’d had night watch between 01:30 and 03:30, so I hadn’t slept as much as normal. I woke up an hour and a half later feeling a lot less groggy and a need to maximize the rest of the day, now that I’d sacrificed so much time that could’ve been spent wandering around on land. In hindsight, dedicating that extra time in the morning to sleep was definetly the right thing to do, I highly doubt I would’ve had the energy to do anything today otherwise.
After everyone had gotten dressed and ready to leave we set off, as usual without much of a plan. We spent what was rest of the morning looking around various shops and trying to come up with a idea for what to do for the rest of the day. Around twelve we were all starving, having been to tired to eat much for breakfast, so we found this poke bowl place for lunch. When everyone had finished stuffing themselves full, we wandered towards the beach, despite the less than ideal weather, stopping by a specific grocery store we’d heard had the best selection of snacks. Getting caught in a downpour shortly after leaving the store, we ran to find some type of shelter. This time shelter came in the form of a small concrete ledge hanging over the stairway down to the beach, leaving a small but dry corner underneath, where we sat huddled up under the blankets we had brought for the beach, munching on whatever snacks we had bought, looking homeless but feeling happy.
Eventually the rain seized up, and when the sun came back out it felt like it never hadn’t been a beautifull day. At this point many were ready to head back to the ship and take a nap before dinner, so we split up, and those of us who weren’t so keen on the idea of missing out on yet another chunk of our last day decided to keep walking along the coast towards the lighthouse.
Soon enough however, the tiredness caught up to us too, and we began to head back towards the center to look for some food. For some kind of apetizer and hunger quencher, we found this tapas bar my dad recommended, where they had a huge selection of delicious tapas for only 1.80€ each. Now feeling happy again we went looking for the others who had left the ship in search of dinner. We decided on another restaurant and met up there, this time for a full meal. We decided to share food in order to be able to try more than one thing, so I was able to eat both the palleia and the grilled octopus I had been longing for.
After yet another great meal, we slowly started heading, stopping to get one last icecream before getting back on the Gunilla.
