Finally pancakes!

Today we woke up anchored outside of a grey and rainy Reykjavik.

The breakfast was served in “stora mässen” and it was amazing, with porridge, boiled eggs and warm bread (thank you Signe). The breakfast on Gunilla is something special and I will miss it very much.

We in Portside started our shift at 8 o´clock in the morning. I was put in control of watching the anchor. While the rest worked hard outside in the rain, I was sitting comfortably inside the bridge. My only task was to make sure that the boat didn’t drift too far and it was quite boring.

Then it was time for lunch and today it was pea soup on the menu. Then we got a big surprise when they served pancakes at the “3-fika”, which is a must after eating pea soup. The afternoon has contained lessons and a lot of preparing for our stay in Reykjavik. In order to step on to land we had to download an app and also register our visit. Here in Iceland they take covid-19 very seriously: for example, you either have to keep a 2 meters distance from other people, or you need to wear a mask. On the boat they have enforced new rules and routines concerning hygiene. We have to wash our hands when we re-enter the boat and we also sanitize the boats doorknobs more regularly.

Tomorrow is the big day when we get to go into the harbour for the first time in 14 days. Unfortunately, portside has to stay on the boat that day, so we will not be able to step on land until Saturday. We have been planning our visit for the last few days, so we have an idea of what we want to do. There is so much to do and so little time. I’m really looking forward to everything we have in store.

I hope everyone is having a great time at home, because we sure are!
