The day started with the usual wake-up call at 7am. For breakfast, I ate oatmeal and drank a glass of orange juice. After quickly putting on my warmest thermal underwear and my sailing pants, I went out into the pouring rain. It was my turn to stand watch for a short while before assembly. As usual, the assembly started at 8:00 AM.
After we were given some information from the captain, those of us who were off-duty went to take a quick nap. Since starboard (my watch) had been on night watch, we were a bit worn out and needed an extra hour of sleep; besides the rain was pouring down outside so we weren’t missing much. Before we could be awaken peacfully the whole boat was instead awakened by a loud alarm no phone could have made.
Without understanding what the issue was, other than realizing it was the fire alarm, we rushed up on deck as we had practiced before. It wasn't a drill but a real alarm, though there wasn’t any danger. A flat iron had triggered the alarm.
The rest of the day was spent in town. During the hours when it rained the most, we went into a cozy café to knit and talk. Later that evening we had dinner at a restaurant where they served a pizza buffet, which was very tasty.
