First day at sea

I started the day at 00:00, early and not so bright. I had my shift from 00:00 to 04:00. During my shift me and my friend Zach decided to climb up the tallest mast, all the way to the top. On the way up we stopped a few times to calm our self’s down because we both were scared of heights. In the end both of us made it to the very very top and all the way back down again. Me and my group also did some work around the boat like doing the laundry, fixed some lines and moved some stuff to the right place.

The shift in its entirety was not so bad, the last 2 hours were kind of slow and there for I got bored and almost fell asleep. We didn’t have much to do because we had the wind in our bow and we couldn’t set the sails. Near the end at like 03:00 I got some sandwiches that I ate in the warm and cosy room outside the galley. When the clock hit 04:00 I hurried down the stairs to our beds to go to sleep. I was s tired that I fell asleep almost immediately.

The same day at 11:10 I got woken up by my friend that was on watch. I put all my working clothes on and hurried up to the galley where the food waited for all of us. We got a kind of Indian soup with some croutons. After that I then headed out on the deck to get ready for my shift. We then gathered the two groups to switch the shifts over to us. The shift started at 12:00 and went on until 16:00. During the shift me and some others decided to practice climbing outside our comfort zones and getting used to the heights. It was scarier during the day because you saw way more than during the night. After that adventure that we would have to endure, we got our shift together to learn more about the ship.

We had a lesson about the different type of sails that we have onboard T/S GUNILLA. We learned all the different lines that we needed to know and how to use them. We even talked about where all the lines go to and etc. When the shift was over we started some lessons about navigation and the company/activists GREENPEACE. We learned that navigation is a very important part of the sea industry and that it has a very long history through out thousands of years all the way back to 3000 BC.

After that we are in the present of this text being written and now, I’m going to sleep to prepare for the next shift at 00:00 to 04:00 and tomorrow we will arrive in Tanger.
