The plague is here, and we have our own little mini Gunilla epidemic, and nearly everybody has been coughing and sniffling for a few days, but thankfully no one has gotten any major cold and been sent to the infirmary. To stop the plague from spreading we’ve been trying to have lessons on deck. The plague is suspected to be mycoplasma, which spreads like covid did, though the small droplets that we cough up.
Yesterday we also became a whale watching cruise for five minutes, as two, maybe three whales surfaced very close to the ship and could be seen for at least two minutes as we sailed past at a snail’s pace due to the wind having died down earlier during the day and instead of coming from the side and now coming straight ahead, and we had such as resorted to starting the engine. The whales slowly swan by, nearly as close as 15 meters. Maybe we should replace all alarms for someone shouting whale down into the pupils’ quarters, and we would be faster on deck in an emergency as I have never seen everybody on deck so fast.
Otherwise, life has been going on as normal, with us now slowly inching closer to land, and tomorrow we may even be able to see land. We have been passing by just north of a traffic separating scheme, so there has been a lot of work for the lookout to keep track of all the ships. The scheme is like a road for ships and is there to ease the navigation of all ships. The area is highly trafficked with all ships coming to Europe from around the cape of Africa passing through the area.
That’s all
