Into the harbor

The day started when we were woken up at 3:30 a.m. to go on watch at 4:00. During the watch we had a lot to do. We took down all the sails and started using the engine for the last part into the harbor, because we were going a bit too fast and because you need the engine to steer in the harbor.

We began by furling the sail at the front, then the one on the deckhouse, and then we went up in the rig to furl the lower mizzen. After that we had a coffee break. Then we started coiling all the ropes and getting ready for docking. After a while, the 8–12 watch took over and we went below to take a shower.

When I came back up, we were docking and the sun was very strong. After we had tied up, we got ready to go ashore. We had muster and lunch before leaving the ship. In town we walked around and explored Las Palmas. After some time we went to a surf shop, then back to the boat to get our swimming things so we could rent surfboards. We surfed for an hour, and afterwards we went to the restaurant “200 Grammos” and ate hamburgers. Then we walked back to the boat and stopped by a grocery store on the way. Back on board we relaxed for a while and then went to bed.
