Learn abroad about home

On the bus back home I talked to a man about Sweden and the segregation there. He asked me if I’m bothered by the immigrants and their ”bad behavior”, and if it’s true that it was an immigrant that killed Olof Palme. I told him that it is all fake news, that I’m not bothered by them at all. You really learn a lot about your own country abroad

Hello!

The day started with some security practicing for all of us. We learned what to do if a fire breaks out, or if we simply have to leave the ship in an emergency. But let’s hope we won’t ever use this knowledge though… After that we practiced climbing and tucking the sails. Since some of us are new, and it was a while ago we did it, it was nice to repeat.

During all this a guy from a tv-show called ”Kids Stew” visited us. He recorded with a drone and interviewed some of us about the boat and stuff.

When all the exercises were done Starboard and Port went ashore to explore Miami. I took the local bus with some friends to Miami Beach. When we arrived and stepped out of the bus, the surrounding were totally different from where the boat is located in Downtown Miami. The buildings and houses looked kind of like in the Mediterranean. The sand burned on the feet and the ocean were beautifully turquoise. While on the beach we played in the water (obviously) and interviewed some people about gender equality for our assignments. When our stomachs felt empty we decided to take a break from the sun to grab an ice cream. Actually we found a really cool ice cream place where they made ice cream rolls (the ones you see on Instagram or Facebook). I’m not kidding when I say that it’s the best ice cream I’ve ever tasted.

After some strolling in the neighborhood we felt that we were done exploring Miami Beach. On the bus back home I talked to a man about Sweden and the segregation there. Back in Downtown Miami we bought some sweet potato chips and took a walk by the harbor back to Gunilla to chill out a while. During that we decided to exercise in the park beside the boat. It was actually really nice to work out for a while.

As expected, the most of us look like tomatoes, especially me. As Moa said at the beach today: ”Right now we look like polar bears, but when we leave we will look like gingerbreads”.
