Today was the first whole day on our way from La Coruña to Jersey, and my time was mostly spend in the gally (boat kitchen), at least for a while.
My watch day started with going up before 4 a clock in the early morning to change with the other workforce. I started my day with preparing for the night snack, that was a homemade scone. Later on we started preparing for the typical breakfast with bread, yogurt, müsli, cornflakes and oats. This was also the second day meating the new chef on board.
There is something special about working in a school kitchen on a boat compared to the ones on land though. Because there is always something flying or spamming from nowhere when the boat swings side to side. That’s why basically everything has a place wich holds the item in its place. But there is still stuff, just as the 20kg wheat container gliding around on the floor (even though it’s secured with a rope), and the poor pineapple jam jar that breaks every other day or the soup and food flying on the floors and walls.
After the breakfast being eaten it’s time to try sleeping again, from 8 to 12. At twelve a clock we ate lunch, in this case pasta grating, but I might have sleept threw it. After lunch we make school work for about 4 hours until it’s time for being workforce again.
To dinner today we served pork filet with rice and sause, and this was a popular dish, really yummy. Sometimes we have a bit of a stressful time serving everybody at the same time, but it went quite smoothly today.
“Wales”, somebody rushed in and shouted, and people ran out, much quicker than the fire alarm practices. Everyone wanted a good look at the whales, and it was really cool even though you mostly saw them blowing wather and a shiny back going up and down. Something that I found cooler though were the approximately 20 dolphins swimming under us, and also seeing dolphins swimming towards us from some other place. They where especially cool later when it got dark. The bioluminescence makes it look like magic when they’re swimming under us, wich I won’t ever forget.
