Öckerö gymnasium

Monday the 27th of april

Today marks the one week point of our journey from the day we left our homes in Gothenburg. We are at the moment somewhere in between the island Sao Miguel and the spanish city A Coruna. It´s a pretty incredible feeling not having seen anything other than water and the occasional dolphin for multiple days, knowing that there´s about four thousand meters down to the bottom of the sea and also knowing that there are no human beeings other than your classmates for many kilometers in any direction.

For me and the rest of my watch the day started at about seven AM when we were woken up by one of the girls working in the kitchen at the time, even though it wasn´t her job but the guy whoms job it was (one of my bestfriends) had forgotten (surprise, surprise) so the girl was kind enough to wake us up before breakfast. After breakfast when our watch started at eight AM our first assignment was to climb up into the rig. This has been the standard start the last couple of days since we have had to travel with engine due to the lack of wind and that has led to us not having anything important to do. Some of the others and I climbed up to the top of the masts and admired the view of the ocean for thirty minutes and enjoyed the sunlight. The rest of the watch was spent on playing games and talking with the others. Next on the agenda was lunch and after that we had a couple lessons which was pretty hard even though we didn´t do mutch since all of the students were half asleep. After lessons most of us slept or atleast rested until dinner and after that we had watch again. After finnishing our last watch of the day we all hurried to bed so that we could get our six hours of sleep before breakfast the next day.

We are all quiet new to the routines on board since we only left the harbour in Ponta Delgada last friday but we´re all slowly getting more used to it and spending the maximum amount that´s socially acceptable sleeping. One thing that is surprising me a bit is the fact that everybody has kept a good face and that there hasn´t been any fallouts of any shape so far even though most of us are tired and hungry majority of times.
