School visit

We spent the day walking around the medina and different stores. We also got a very nice school visit at the American school of Tanger. We talked to the students and got a tour of the entire school.

A big part of the afternoon was then spent at a huge ceramic store with beautiful porcelain in many different designs. We ended the day at a cozy restaurant eating traditional Moroccan food. We than went to bed completely full and happy with our accomplishments of the day.

Our day started as usual at eight o’clock with morning assembly on main deck. The Swedish and the Moroccan flag was set and after we were free to go. We ran down and got ready. After about twenty minuets everyone was ready to go. We started the long walk along the pier to get to the city. When we got off the pier the big group split, and we started walking towards the medina. It wasn’t a lot that was open really but luckily, we found a juice place. Everyone bought delicious juices, and some got a pain au chocolate as well. Some of us decided to sleep for an extra half an hour so this was a perfect breakfast. We sat there for a while thinking about were to head next. We decided to head up the street towards the big square.

We walked to the square and looked in some of the few shops that had started to open. We kept walking further in on smaller streets and in tighter alleys. Some bought some species, henna and some small bracelets. After a while we had walked very far and came very beautiful alleys with pretty pattern doors and a lot of plants. Many pictures were taken of both the architecture and the cute cats and kittens that were everywhere”. We came upon a very cool cultural café, were we had some nice tea and looked at the pretty view of the rooftops. Then we went to a viewpoint where we could see Gibraltar and the big port with fishing boats, we took some pictures while enjoying the view. But soon it was time to go back to grab some lunch before our school visit. We sat down at a restaurant with plastic chairs were we also met some of our other classmates and had a chicken taco for 35 kr.

Then we jumped into a taxi and headed to the American school of Tanger. We got a warm welcome by the principal Matt. He showed us to an empty classroom and asked us to split up into pairs. Each pair of Gunilla students got an AST student to chat with. We asked our questions for our school projects, about religion and social science. We got a lot of good, interesting and many different answers which will be very helpful for our projects. After some time, the principal clapped his hands, and we switched and got a different student to talk to.

After the group conversations we got assigned a guide and got a tour of the entire campus. It was a big school whit both kindergarten, middle school and high school. We got to see the three different floors of classrooms. A lot of the small children looked at us and were very interested. We got to see their library witch they were proud of. We also got a tour of the cafeteria, the sports fields, the gym and their swimming pool. They were about 500 students in total on the school. We asked our guide about how much it costs to go to this nice school, it turned out to be very expensive, about 140 000 kr per year. After the tour was done the whole class took a group picture.

Then we walked back to the medina longing for a fresh Juice. We wished to take a taxi but didn’t find any, so we walked the entire way. The walk turned out interesting when we accidentally walked past a street where they slaughtered different animals and burned leftovers. There were animal heads, meat, intestine and horns along the entire street. I started thinking about becoming a vegetarian right there on the spot. We also saw a trashed cemetery. Where the graves were broken and full of thrash, that was very sad to see.
