Sunny Sunday Meeting

I was woken up at eleven o'clock to the best possible thing, eggs and bacon. This was according to the ships tradition of fired breakfast on sundays. It meant that I could start my “brunch” with bacon and eggs, continue with two portions of blue cheese pasta, and finish with a bowl of “boat made yogurt". To say the least I was pretty pleased with the start of my day.

Then it was time to go on watch, i i got dressed up in my work clothes and climbing harness. When I opened the door which leads out to the main deck, I was greeted with a clear sky and a much needed warm soothing breeze. This was a contrast to the cool climate of the north sea. During the watch we sowed in the beautiful weather. When we were sewing we spotted a lumpfish’s fin poking out of the blue ocean. There were also lots of unusual jellyfish drifting around us. After a bit of research we came to the conclusion that it was baby portuguese sail jellyfishes. They are one of the most dangerous jellyfish in the world. After our fika break it was time to tow all of the sails in preparation for the MOB, man over board, exercise that was soon to take place. The exercise consisted of us launching the emergency rescue boat and taking it out for a spin.

On Sundays we always have a big meeting with the whole crew. Here the captain brings to light issues on the ship that we have to solve, an important opportunity for the crew to evolve and improve. During our captain's speech two tiny birds greeted us by flying around us and ended up landing on Sally’s head. A comedic break in the otherwise tense tone of the meeting.

The rest of my day consisted of studying, reading and relaxing. Sunday is our rest day without any lessons. I decided to go on deck and watch the sunset which today was spectacular. Now I'm waiting for fika time where scones are on the menu. What’s remaining of my day is a watch at 12 pm and then my day will end with a good night’s sleep.
