We woke up to a bright and sunny day here in Guadeloupe and after breakfast and muster our watch started. Our job was to bring the two tenders on to Gunilla again and put the safety net up at the railing on main deck and to take down our two sunroofs.
When this and some other small things were done, we heaved the anchor and left Guadeloupe. It was a bit sad to leave this island already, it is a very nice and cozy place, and I would have wanted at least one more day on the island. Even though the experience of this island was amazing there was one thing that made me rather want to go to Antigua then to stay here. This was that here in Guadeloupe the official language is French which means that practically all people that live here speak French and almost all the tourists that visits this island is from France and as all of us know most French people don’t learn English, so the communication was a bit tricky. In Antigua on the other hand, which was a British colony, the official language is English so the communication will probably be a lot easier.
Between watches we had some lessons where one was a presentation about Antigua as well as our program for our stay on the island. After learning some more about this island I think we will have a great time there. I think that especially the three last days will be very interesting and I look forward to talking to the people that live on Antigua and learn more about them.
When we left Guadeloupe, we had to do so with the engine due to headwind, but towards the evening the wind was more favouring and the watch before us could finally set sail. During our watch we sat two more sails and got to listen to our captain telling us stories from his life at sea. We were also able to see the lights of Antigua in the clouds at the horizon and when our watch were finished we got to go to bed knowing that when we would wake up we would lie at anchor in Falmouth bay outside the island Antigua.
