Water war and dangerous acid!

Our day started at seven o’clock with breakfast as usual, after that we had morning gathering. This was our last day in Mindelo, but my guard Babord had watch so we were all ready to work by eight o’clock.

A few days prior we had all bought matching t-shirts at a secondhand in Mindelo so we all were matching. We had just gotten some new crew members so we were all excited to start working with them. At first, we had to fold some fenders so they would fit in their box, later on we washed the boom. It was hard to clean the boom because the brushes couldn’t reach the whole way so it ended with me sitting on the boom, trying not to fall down while holding it with my bare hands I’m scrubbing away the dirt and tar. Fortunately, I didn’t fall down and we continued to clean the deck and scrub the walls which all ended with a water war. We were all completely wet by snack time but thanks to the scorching sun we all dried quick.

After lunch we had to jump in into full cover suits, gloves and googles because we were going to use a really strong agent which was dangerous to the skin. The acid that we used was to kind of fry away the rust so we brushed on every area on the main deck that had a little bit rust on it. When we finally were done, we were rewarded with carrot cake and vanilla ice cream as our new medical celebrated her birthday! We finished for the day relatively early so we all went to the front deck and went tanning. We brought some snacks and listened to music together but I think we all fell asleep because I woke up one hour later from the dogs on the dock barking. Later on, we did some studies and then had dinner. While we waited for our friends to come back we played some board games before it was time for me to sit ship guard after a wonderful day.
