A sail-filled day!

Hello dear readers! It’s me, Svea Waehrens! I haven’t written here since my last trip in December 2025-January 2026, but I’m honoured because today is the perfect day to write about! It’s been about a day since we left Lerwick, Shetland and our friends from Sørlandet (a Norwegian sister ship).

But we’re on high and fast course to Dublin, well what i perceived at least. I’m gonna start off telling you of my first night watch between 04:00-08:00. Without boring everyone I’m gonna summarize these intriguing 4 hours. I was a bit seasick and especially since the rumour that 4,5 meter high waves were coming right against us was a big jump from what we dealt with from the start. So it wasn’t super exciting, more or less a bit scary to see what it would be like. It was raining as well and the whole boat leaned from one side to the other, but not on a nice angle. While trying to hide and find a wind/rain free zone, was the moment we all saw the beautiful sunrise with a rainbow aswell! It’s was the perfect highlight of the night watch.

Going to sleep is one of the best things out on the sea. And waking up, can be quite the opposite. I’m not a morning person but for once, we woke up without the worry of hurrying to watch. We had lunch, pasta and tomato sauce and with our own pace we went down to the lessons. The lessons included a port-review. And for the first time a quiz, which was intriguing. But I was kept quite busy with my social science project from Norway.. But dear readers, that’s when it happened! The motor stopped running! It was first when we came up on deck that we saw that sails were up! And a lot of sails to say so! About 8-10 or so! And on our watch, our group leader kept us busy with bracing the sails, then coil the tamp, but no then bracing again. Then coil.. and on and on so… it quite never ends. But to experience the sunset with a rainbow again! Was quite beautiful! But don’t forget to look into the ocean were we saw some type of Dolphins that reminded awfully of “killer whales” as you call it. But it was a big family, or even a big society that started swimming along Gunilla! Which was an amazing way to end the day.

Sails were up, sunset was going down and dolphins were matching our speed sailing forward!
