Lots of card game, less of sleep

I was woken up by a knock on my door. It was lunchtime but, as usual, I prioritised my sleep and skipped lunch, gaining an extra thirty minutes.

Since we’re not really sailing and relying on the motor, there’s not much to do during watch. You can sit and feel restless, waiting for the ’fika’ that usually falls somewhere in the middle of your four-hour watch. I’m on babord, which means I now have the 12-4 watch. This feels more like school or watch all at once compared to the other watches. Those alternate between sleep, watch, sleep and school. However, the 12-4 watch has a long break in the middle, called dinner. This break makes school an hour longer and an hour of sleep that you lose.

When we had one hour left of school we were let by our teacher to sleep til our guards which would really be needed but of course the same people who never sleeps didn’t sleep. So we stayed up to play cards, our teachers loves to play Chicago, a card game close to poker, so we went looking for here but without success, we did get out chef to join us. After a time of playing Chicago we changed to another card game called gursch, which is 50% luck and 50% skill. Usually you play this game with money as price, but we didn’t. Theres this story of about a guy a few years back who played so much gursch here on Gunilla without any luck or skill that when he came home he had to sell his moped to pay of his debt. I think that story has scared lots of us. After 3 hours of card games I got a bad headache so I finally went to sleep.
